Dr. G. Nagendra Prabhu wins Basti Vaman Shenoy Viswa Konkani Seva Puraskar 2017
Dr. G. Nagendra Prabhu of the P. G. Department of Zoology and Research Centre of our College has been selected for the Basti Vaman Shenoy Viswa Konkani Seva Puraskar 2017 of the Mangalore based World Konkani Centre. The annual award has been constituted since 2014 to recognize outstanding contributions by Konkani-speaking individuals or organisations managed by Konkanies in fields such as Education, Governance, Social Service, Health Care, Science, Journalism, Literature (other than Konkani Language), Performing Arts, Humanities, Industry, Commerce, Sports etc. The award carries a purse of Rs.1.00 lakh apart from a citation and memento. Dr. Prabhu’s contribution to the field of Education, Science, Research and Community Service has won the award for him. It is will be presented at a glittering function organized on 20th November 2017 at Mangalore.
Dr. Prabhu has a Ph. D in Biotechnology from Cochin University of Science & Technology and has undertaken Post Doctoral Research & Training visits to the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology of the University of Georgia, USA and the German Research Centre for Biotechnology. He had also served as Coordinator of the Department of Biotechnology of Asian Institute for Medicine, Science & Technology in Malaysia during 2003-2007. Till date, he has successfully completed 7 research projects funded by the Kerala Biotechnology Commission and KSCSTE, Govt. of Kerala, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, University Grants Commission, New Delhi. He is also the winner of the first FLAIR Research Excellence Award of the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Kerala during 2016, Rural Innovator Awards during 2014 &16, International Biotechnology Training Fellowship from Germany, Young Scientist Award of the Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi among others. Considering his expertise in value addition of aquatic weeds, the Govt. of Kerala had nominated him in the team of experts for suggesting ways to control water hyacinth during 2009. He has launched a Community Training Centre at the College which offers training to women, students and the general public on value addition of aquatic weeds of Kerala.
He is also serving as a member of the Old Thirumala Temple Management Committee, Vice President of Sukrtindra Oriental Research Institute, Ernakulam, Member of the Ethics Committee of Sudhindra Medical Mission, Ernakulam, Secretary of K. Nagendra Prabhu Foundation, State Secretary of GSB Kshema Sabha, Kerala and State Treasurer of All Kerala Brahmin Federation.Add to favorite
