National Science day
National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28 th February every year to mark the discovery of Raman Effect by C.V. Raman. The event is commemorated in honour of Sir C.V. Raman for his legacy and discovery of the Raman Effect on February 28, 1928, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, FRS, (7 November 1888 – 21 November 1970) was an Indian Physicist and Nobel laureate in Physics recognized for his work on the molecular scattering of light and for the discovery of the Raman Effect, which is named after him. Focal theme selected for NSD- 2018 is: ‘Science and Technology for sustainable future’ and will aim to raise public appreciation on scientific issues for the development of the Nation.
Scien Fest 2018
Department of Physics, SD College is organising “Scien Fest-2018”, in connection with the National Science Day celebration. The objective of the event is to trigger science popularization activities and to disseminate scientific education about the current issues of science and technology amongst the students and public. The programme includes a popular lecture and other competitions to spread the focal theme of NSD -2018 – Science and Technology for sustainable future.Dr. Tarun Kumar Pant, Scientist ‘SG’,SPL, VSSC, Trivandrum, will inaugurate the function.
