DST-FIST Presentation Meet @ Alleppey during 27-29, October 2018
S. D. College, Alleppey is organizing the 3 – day Presentation Meet of the DST-FIST (Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India – Fund for Improvement of S&T infrastructure in universities & higher educational institutions” for Colleges all over India during 27-29th October 2018. FIST is a prestigious programme of the DST aunched in 2000 with an aim to rebuild the Science & Technology infrastructure in the country.
145 Colleges from all over the country (Kashmir to Kanyakumari – literally) are participating in the current meet, organized for the first time in Alleppey and only the second time in Kerala. Out of these, 59 colleges will be presenting the progress made upon receiving financial assistance under this scheme during 2014-15. The other colleges, shortlisted after a rigorous screening process, will be submitting fresh proposals for financial support to the tune of Rs. 1 crore under the Level – 0 (entry level) for Colleges having sufficient courses at UG & PG levels in the Basic Science and Engineering streams. Funding is provided for procuring sophisticated equipment meant for research and minor equipment for teaching, creation of infrastructure (renovation/up-gradation of existing labs, establishment of Networking & Computational facility and for maintenance of the facilities created through FIST grant etc.
S. D. College is a recipient of Rs. 1 crore grant under this scheme during 2015. The College has established a full-fledged interdisciplinary research centre named after Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam during 2017 by spending a matching sum released by DST. A special interaction meet is also arranged in the College on 29th October 2018 at 2.00 pm where the senior officials from DST, Dr. Amlesh Mukhopadhyay, (Head, SERC Division), Dr. Arindam Bhattacharya and Dr. Shivaprasad will interact with faculty, researchers and students from nearby Colleges.
