Sanatana Dharma College, Alappuzha is a major education and research centre at Alappuzha stands as a testimony to the wisdom and foresight of great visionaries like  Sri. K. Parthasarathy Iyengar & Sri. V. Sundra Raja Naidu.  The college offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate and Research programmes in various branches of basic sciences, languages, commerce and humanities. Science departments like Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics and Mathematics are approved research centres of the University of Kerala.  The Physics department boasts of a highly equipped research lab funded by KSCSTE under the SARD scheme. “Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology” (FIST) is a program sponsored by Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India, to improve the teaching & research infrastructure at Universities and Colleges. In 2015-16, S.D. College was selected as one of the Colleges to be funded under this prestigious programme and received     Rs. 1 Crore to improve the teaching and interdisciplinary research in the 5 Science departments.

         The College Management has invested a matching amount to house the state-of-the art equipment in a new building. The Interdisciplinary Research Lab and Computational Facility are now being shifted to this new facility names after great Scientist and former President of India, Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
