The Mathematics Department is the oldest affiliated Mathematics Department under the University of Kerala. Department was established on 20 June 1946 and now offers B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses in Mathematics. M.Sc. course was started in 1964. We have conducted M.Phil. courses during the years 1990-1993. The Department receives books on a regular basis from National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) Book distribution scheme. It has to its credit three endowments, instituted in the names of Late Prof. T A. Satagopan, Late. Prof. M.C. Gopalakrishnan and Late Sri. Arjun Sekher (former B.Sc. Student). A high standard is maintained in the department when it comes to developing young minds. 

 Among the 9 faculty members of the department, 7 have M.Phil. degree of which 4 have doctoral degree as well. Above all, 3 of the faculty members (Dr. R Sreekumar, Dr. S. Vijayakrishnan and Dr. Bibin K Jose) are recognized research guides of University of Kerala. The areas of specialization of the faculty members are Convexity Theory, Fractal Geometry, Computer Application, Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Graph Theory and Topology. Apart from 4 minor research projects from UGC, we have more than 20 research papers in various national and international journals published so far. Some of our faculty members have also served as editorial board members and reviewers of various national as well as international journals like Springer, Elsevier etc. They have also served as resource persons for various national and international seminars.  Our faculty member Dr. R. Sreekumar is a member of the P.G. Board of studies, University of Kerala and Dr S Vijayakrishnan is a member U. G. Board of studies, University of Kerala and Dr. Bibin K Jose is a member of the P.G. Board of studies, Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam. Our students hold top positions in university examinations every year. So far we have 30 ranks for M.Sc. and B.Sc. in our credit and above 20 NET holders. We have organized 2 week work shop “Initiation into Mathematics” funded by the NBHM which attracted more than 40 young talented students in Mathematics of various states of India from 29th April 2012 to 11th May 2012.
