Eco Club
The aim of establishing the Eco Club in S.D. College was to preserve the greenery of the campus, conserve resources, create an eco-friendly environment and to create awareness on biodiversity conservation among students. This club promotes a clean and green consciousness among students through various activities. Dr. Jose Mathew from the Dept. of Botany is the Coordinator of Eco Club. He is a seasoned speaker on environmental issues and a Master Trainer in green initiatives.
The objectives of Eco Club are:
- To motivate students to keep their surroundings green and clean by undertaking the plantation of trees.
- To promote the conservation of water by minimizing the wastage of water.
- To motivate students to imbibe habits and lifestyle for minimum waste generation, source separation of waste and disposal of waste to the nearest storage point.
- To prepare students for spreading awareness on cleanliness and waste disposal.
- To deploy students for creating awareness amongst public and sanitary workers, so as to stop the indiscriminate burning of waste which causes respiratory diseases.
The students are exposed to field activities such as Nature Trails, Quiz and Poster Competitions, so as to create enthusiasm regarding issues pertaining to Biodiversity and Nature. The Eco-club of Sanatana Dharma College, Alappuzha organized a two-day study trip to Nelliyampathy and Parambikulam Tiger Reserve on the 9th and 10th of December 2019.
