The programme was inaugurated by Hon. Principal Prof Dr. KH Prema. The National Science Day celebrations 2024, was based on the theme “Indigenous technologies for Viksit Bharat” focused on food security. We celebrated 2023 as International year of millet to raise an awareness of the multiple benefits of millets, from nutrition and health to environmental sustainability and economic development.
we recognized ‘The taxonomical perspectives and subsistence farming technology for climate- resilient nutri-cereal entrepreneurship’ & “nourishment of global population with sustainable paddy cultivation” as key focal points for the Science Day celebrations in 2024″. In connection with this, the Principal launched a Millet museum by scanning the QR code labeled on millet bottles. QR Code scanning leads to the college website and directs to the page which describes the taxonomical details, plant descriptions, nutrional values and health benefits of millets. Commonly cultivated, available and consumed millets in India in particularly in South India were included. This digital resource for millet popularization is a novel initiative by the botany department. Technical assistance for this QR code enabled millet museum was given by college librarian, Sri. Arun Kishore BL. Two scientific technical sessions were included in the programme. First session handled by Dr. KBRS VISARADA, Principal Scientist IIMR, Hyderabad and the second session handled by Prof Dr. KG Padmakumar, Director International training centre for
